Hide And Seekis a darker TBM album, with gloomier lyrics, especially on this track which was inspired by the unsolved 1984 rape and murder of 9-year-old Christine Jessop. The chorus is driven by a thundering bass line over which Chibi sings lyrics laced, like in the previous track, with fairy tale imagery: “Mirror on the wall / Frame the picture / Reflect this kiss / To wish us all goodnight.”ģ. I’m reminded of that band’s 1987 hit “Never Let Me Down Again”, which is weird because this song sounds nothing like that song. This track, the second punch, sounds like Depeche Mode on steroids. “This story’s missing a wishing well / No mirror to show and tell,” she sings, using fairy tale imagery as a metaphor for pretense: “We kill the lights and put on a show / It’s all a lie / But you’d never know.” An amazing track!Ģ. “Kill The Lights”, the first punch, kicks out The Cure‘s influence by layering the sounds over an extended intro – synths, more synths, bass, drums, guitars, more guitar, and, finally, as the frenzy wanes, Chibi‘s vocals.

TBM‘s 3rd album, Walking With Strangers, opens with a perfect one-two punch, and so my TBM playlists always begin with those two amazing tracks. So, in anticipation of TBM‘s next album, allow me to share my best TBM playlist …ġ. I made my pledge for TBM‘s project, as well as for The Dollyrots‘ recently-released 5th album, Barefoot And Pregnant (2014). Their 6th album is being funded via PledgeMusic, which I believe is the future for all independent artists. TBM, to date, has released five full-length studio albums: Nothing and Nowhere (2002), Violet (2005), Walking with Strangers (2007), Pins and Needles (2010), and Hide and Seek (2012). TBM also incorporates a new wave influence, and, with their louder guitars and pounding backbeats, this band’s sound is very unique. TBM sounds like a female-fronted version of The Cure, but, with crunchier guitar riffs, less moping, and more of an industrial/dark wave influence. She is joined by Falcore (lead guitar), Rainbow (rhythm guitar), Owen (synthesizers), Nate Manor (bass), and Rhim (drums). The band is fronted by Chibi (vocals) who often wears a Catholic school uniform in concert. The Birthday Massacre is a Canadian gothic/alternative synthrock band, formed in 1999, in London, Ontario, and currently based in Toronto, Ontario.
